Gala dinner and award night emcee in Singapore

Formal hosts who pace a long evening, say every winner's name right and keep the awards moving between courses.

Gala dinner emcee pair in Singapore presenting an award on stage at a black tie awards night

A gala dinner or award night emcee in Singapore sets the formal tone, keeps a long evening moving and makes sure every winner's name and company is said correctly. Many galas book a male and female pair so the two hosts can talk to each other between segments. We shortlist solo hosts and pairs with award night experience and send you profiles, videos and a price.

Price: an award ceremony or gala dinner emcee usually costs SGD 2,000 to 3,500 for 3 to 4 hours, more for a pair of hosts or a trilingual host. See emcee rates in Singapore.

Why award nights cost more

The stage time is similar to a dinner and dance, but the preparation is heavier. The emcee rehearses every citation, checks the pronunciation of each winner and company, learns the order of presenters and agrees cue points with the AV team for walk up music, nominee videos and photos. One mistake on a name is what guests remember, so this work is built into the fee.

How a gala programme flows

A good gala is sequenced, not a list of items. Guests arrive and take their seats, the emcee opens and introduces the guest of honour, the awards are spread across the courses in two or three blocks, and an act or the band lifts the room between blocks. The emcee keeps each award tight: announce, walk up, handshake and photo, walk back. Speeches always run long, so build 10 to 15 minutes of float into the run sheet.

A charity gala adds an auction or an appeal, sponsor thanks and often a guest of honour. That can add 30 to 90 minutes and needs an emcee who can pace an appeal without losing the room.

Solo host or pair

  • Solo host. Works well for a shorter programme or a smaller room.
  • Male and female pair. Common for galas and award ceremonies. The banter between segments keeps energy up over a long night, and the two hosts can split languages.
  • Bilingual or trilingual host. For mixed audiences and regional guests. See bilingual emcee.

A male and a female emcee with similar experience are priced the same.

What to send your emcee

Send the full award list with names, companies and titles, the order of presenters, the timing of each course from the banquet team, any sponsor mentions with the exact wording, and every video cue. Send it two weeks ahead and confirm the final version one week ahead. A rehearsal or briefing session for an award ceremony usually costs SGD 100 to 300 and is worth it. The run sheet and script guide has a checklist.

Questions people ask

How much does an award ceremony emcee cost in Singapore?

Usually SGD 2,000 to 3,500 for a 3 to 4 hour award ceremony or gala dinner with one emcee. A pair of emcees or a dedicated trilingual host sits above that range, and a media personality host starts at about SGD 2,500.

One emcee or a male and female pair?

A male and female pair is common for galas and award nights. The two hosts can talk to each other between segments and share a long list of announcements. Both cost the same per person as a solo host of similar experience.

How do emcees prepare the winners' names?

Send the full award list with names, company names and titles at least two weeks before. The emcee checks pronunciation, ideally directly with the people involved, and rehearses the citations.

How long should the awards segment be?

Give each award a realistic slot for the walk up, the photo and the walk back, and add 10 to 15 minutes of float, because speeches always run long.
